Made by Minneapolis filmmaking ream Megan Huber and Wyatt McDill, and starring Justin Kirk (“Weeds”) and Sam Rosen (“Stuck Between Stations,”) “Four Boxes” is a 2009 South-by-Southwest Film Festival Selection with a soundtrack featuring music by: Caribou, Mice Parade and The Album Leaf.

Sound Unseen 11, October 6-10

Sound Unseen is proud to present the 11th annual Sound Unseen Music/Film/Art Festival, October 6-10, 2010.  Sound Unseen will feature twelve films (documentaries & narratives), with screenings being held at the Red Stag Supper Club, the Southern Theater and the Trylon microcinema.

In over ten years, Sound Unseen has established itself as one of the premiere “films-on-music” festivals in the country and has become a vital part of the Twin Cities cultural scene. The festival is known for the breadth of its multimedia productions, documentaries, rare concert footage, short films, animation, music videos, gallery exhibitions and dozens of live music events showcasing both local and national acts.

Some of the films in this year’s festival include;  

At The Southern Theater:

  • The Agony & the Ecstasy of Phil Spector, focuses on not only Spector’s legendary music writing and producing career, it features first-hand interviews with Spector during his first trial for the second-degree murder of Lana Clarkson.  Followed by an Opening Night dance party at The Southern Theater with Hipshaker! DJ Greg Waletski…Free Schell’s Beer all night long!
  • Who is Harry Nilsson? (And Why is Everybody Talkin’ About Him), an entertaining documentary about one of the most talented singer-songwriters in pop music history.  With a very special pre-film performance from founding member of The Jayhawks-Gary Louris.
  • Ride, Rise, Roar is a David Byrne concert film that blends riveting onstage performances with intimate details of the creative collaborations.  With a performance by the film’s lead dancer-Steven Reker.

At The Trylon microcinema:

  • 2010 Jury prize winner from the first annual Sound Unseen Int’l Duluth festival, Wheedle’s Groove, a feature documentary about Seattle’s long-lost soul and funk music scene of the 1960s and 70s.
  • The Carter a fascinating documentary on internationally known rapper, Lil’ Wayne;
  • This Movie is Broken a hybrid narrative/documentary on the Canadian indie-pop band Broken Social Scene
  • A very special screening, to be announced on Thursday, September 9.

At The Red Stag: The U.S. premiere of Shadow Play: The Making of Anton Corbijn a glimpse inside the mind of a master photographer, film & music director Anton Corbijn (Control, The American).

At TBA location:Minneapolis, electro funk band, Estate, is scheduled to play the closing night party.

A new reality competition series called “Faceoff,” a show that will find the best all around special effects makeup artist.  Presented on SyFy, this show aims to test the skill set of any artist who can rise to the challenge.  We are looking for undiscovered talent or semi-professional, self-taught or trained make-up artists who are proficient in: special effects, prosthetics AND beautifying.  You must be 18 years of age or older and a U.S. Citizen.

WINNER RECEIVES $100,000!

We are going to have Open Casting Calls in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Sept. 8th and in Orlando on Saturday, Sept. 11th.  If you want to be considered for the show but can’t attend one of those two cities, you can submit a short (5-8 minute) video telling us about your background and experience, and then create a special effects character ON YOURSELF (something that can be done in half an hour or less). The deadline for video submissions is Sept. 15.   It can be sent via yousendit.com or post on Youtube and send us the link.

Please e-mail the casting producers below a brief synopsis about yourself and a photo, along with info on your training as an FX makeup artist.  Also include a link to your online portfolio if you have one, as well as your updated resume and photos of your special FX work.

Screenwriters Workshop: Showcase Reading Series

First Annual Twin Cities Film Fest – Sept. 28-Oct. 2
August 19th, 2010

Twin Cities Film Fest (TCFF), a Minneapolis-based 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization, want to entertain, energize, and enlighten audiences. The fest will offer audiences access to the best films the global industry has to offer, stimulate economic activity in the Twin Cities and offer filmmakers a premiere venue at which to screen their work.

The opening ceremony & film takes place Tuesday, September 28th at 7:00 p.m, at Theatres at Mall of America.

On Wednesday, September 29th Theatres at Mall of America will feature Mexican films throughout the day and AMC Block E 15 will also feature Minnesota Films, Studio Films and American Independent Films on 2 screens.

The Festival will continue to host films at AMC Block E 15 throughout the week and conclude with a closing film on Saturday, October 2nd at 7pm. Opening Night and Closing Night selections will be announced sometime next week.

Additional elements to Twin Cities Film Festival will include free screenings, parties throughout the Metro area, educational seminars and Minnesota Proud Walk of Fame events, including new inductees. Twin Cities Black Film Festival

The goal of  The Twin Cities Black Film Festival  is to reach the largest viewing audience possible while simultaneously capitalizing and exhibiting films that cater to the Twin Cities African American and multicultural communities.

Shamrock Film Festival, October 7-9

The Shamrock Film Festival, now in its third year, has expanded to offer three days of film screenings, workshops and other events. The event will be held October  7 – 9 at the new Steeple Center (14375 South Robert Trail) in Rosemount.

Highlights include a gala opening on Thursday, October 7, followed by screening of entries and an awards gala. New this year will be workshops for filmmakers and the public to enjoy.

The festival has expanded its reach this year to include international entries. All entry information is now available on the Shamrock website. Early bird deadline ($5 off entry fee) is Sept. 5. The final deadline is Sept. 27.
