Sandra has 30 years of acting experience, and 20 years of teaching, directing and producing experience in LA, MPLS, NYC. (Her Bio Below.)

Sandra K. Horner returns from LA to get
you ready to win the role.

Monologue & the Audition Class is based in

Robert Lewis’ Script Analysis

Who was Robert Lewis?

Along with Meisner, Adler and Strasberg, Robert Lewis was a master teacher who came from The Group Theatre. He also headed the Yale Drama Department during which time Meryl Streep and many other greats, studied with him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Lewis Sandra had the good fortune to study directly with “Bobby” while living and working in NYC. (To Sandra’s knowledge, she is the only coach in LA & MPLS teaching pure ROBERT LEWIS’ SCRIPT ANALYSIS Technique.)

MONOLOGUE EMPHASIS:

Easily finding the right monologues for you.
Simple tools for cold reading monologues.
Movement and blocking.
Working your monologue(s) to audition level.

COLD READING EMPHASIS:

Strengthening your oral reading skills.
Interpreting scripts quickly with Lewis’ Script Analysis.
Delivering direction/adjustments easily.
Making strong, imaginative choices that get you called back!

MARKETING EMPHASIS:

Do’s and don’t of auditioning.
Making your headshot work for you.
Strengthening your resume.
Writing great cover letters.
Get agent(s).  Get work.  Get paid.
Job and audition etiquette.

Skype interviews and auditions (new).
MPLS Vs., LA Vs., NYC markets.

MONOLOGUE & THE AUDITION CLASS culminates in a “As If Audition.” It’s a lot of fun applying all that you have learned in a mock film, television or stage audition!

Get More Confident.
“…. I can’t believe what you can get out of your actors.”

Dan O’Dowd, screenplay writer and director, LA.

Every actor needs a repertoire of monologues.  Why?  Because monologues are used to show: directors/agents/managers/casting directors and producers, a sample of your work.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that monologues are only used in theatre auditions.  A real life example:
One of our last LA performances that I directed and produced found some Industry unable to attend.  Yet actors were getting called in off their headshots.  This happened to Jessica.  An agent asked her to his office to do a couple of monologues. Luckily, she was prepared.  She WOWed the agent, and he asked to represent her. Plus he wanted her to come in and perform a new monologue each month, to keep her chops up……..and this is just ONE example.

I have a card hanging on the wall in my office that reads:  ”Luck is being prepared for opportunity when it comes.” Jessica wasn’t lucky, she was prepared.  Are you?

Monologue & the Audition Class Begins: Thursday, February 9, 2012

In-Person Classes Meets: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, (Feb. 9, 10, 11, 12)

QUOTES:

“As an actor, one of the most difficult parts of auditioning for me is finding the right monologue and feeling confident when I perform it for the first time.  I found myself not going to auditions simply because I didn’t have any new material.  Sandra’s monologue class was of great help to me.  After working up 2 strong contrasting pieces, I wanted to go out and use them – and I did.  I now have 2 shows lined up back to back at the 4th Street Theater and at the Jungle.  I credit Sandra with helping me get them.”

~ Mikki Daniels, TC actress, TPS alumni.
“Sandra has what I call ‘eagle-vision’…If it weren’t for Sandy I would’ve never been able to do “United 93.”  She gave me the tools to go to emotional depths I had never gone before…”

Seeking Actors/Actress for two comedic shorts
Posted in Acting & Casting

Local production company is casting for two comedic short films.

The first is called “No You Can’t”. This film is about different sorts of annoying/funny customers that enter a restaurant. Along the way, it also pokes fun at employee/employer relationships.

The main two characters:

Carl: Carl is 18 years old, and a senior in high school. He is the manager at this restaurant. This is both a testament to his intelligence, and his work ethic. He does everything perfectly–he’s good looking, smart, gets good grades, is a jock, and he’s got a great job. All of this has gone directly to his head. He is unbelievably full of himself. All of the people he manages really dislike him. He believes that they all love him, and that they all need him in one way or another. He categories the different types of employees, and how he tends to their needs. (role already cast)

Jim: Jim is the anti-Carl. He’s slightly bigger, slightly over-weight. He does what he has to do in order to get by. Although he’s not super book smart, he is packed with common sense, and a hatred for people. He has categorized all of the different sorts of annoying/funny customers that enter the store–each day they push him closer and closer to his breaking point, until he finally gets there. (role already cast)

We need the following roles: *Keep in mind that age, ethnicity, and appearance are being kept wide open. Don’t be afraid to audition if you’re not an exact fit! **Also, some of the roles will need to be shot from 10:30pm overnight, into the next day. These time constraints are due to the fact that we are filming at an actual restaurant and we cannot shoot during their hours of operation. We’ll try and be as flexible as we can, but keep that in mind.

Carl’s Mom: 30s-40s, Blonde/Brunette, high pitched voice, in good shape. Carl is the way he is partly because of his over-bearing Mother who believes he’s perfect, and gives him all the love and attention in the world–it’s a wonder she has yet to smother him to death.

6 Employees: We need several different types of employees in all different shapes an sizes. We need employees from the ages of around 15-60, and all ethnicities. The types for these roles are wide open, except, we need a fairly large, intimidating African American to be one of the employees.

7 Customers: We also need a big variety of customers. Ages 5-105, open to any ethnicity. Right off the bat we need someone who can play a senior citizen, a stereotypical high maintenance teen, and a younger customer, around the age of 6. In general, we need customers that can be described as “too old, too young, too shy, overly friendly, complainers, moaners, groaners, question talkers…”. So if you can fit one of those roles, please email us!

1 Principal Customer: This customer brings Jim to his breaking point. This customer has some more screen time, and a few lines. This customer is obnoxious, and could be described as a Madea, or Big Momma type. But remember, age, sex, and ethnicity are open. So if you can play the world’s worst customer, please audition!

The second film is called “Wrong Person”. This is about a teenage male who recently had his heart broken, and he’s venting to a 3 year old kid, who of course has no idea what’s going on. Several times during his rant, he’s interrupted by the waitress, who seems to really dislike him. They eventually get into a fight.

We are casting two roles:

A waitress approximately 16-25 years old. Hair color, height, etc, is all open.

A child that is between 2-6 years old, gender and race open. This role will have one line, and will be shot first, so the child won’t have to be out too late(this role will pay $25 in gas money for his/her parents).

If you’re interested and available, auditions will be held Sunday the 29h of January, at the Rockford Library from 12:30pm-2:30pm FOR BOTH FILMS.

The address is:
6401 42nd Ave N
Minneapolis, MN 55427-1425
(612) 543-5875
Here is a link to their hours, and a map of the area: http://www.hclib.org/pub/ipac/Agencies4iPac.cfm?Agency=RR

Please email for cjgreen2011@gmail.com for a time slot (you’ll get some other info too, like a contact name and number, along with a role to practice), include a head shot and resume (if you have them), a short paragraph detailing your experience, and in the subject line put your name, age, and which role you believe you can play.

Unfortunately this will not be paid, but you will get CCM (copy, credit, meal) for your time. These films will be submitted into film festivals, specifically the Z Fest. Find out some more information at www.z-fest.com

Z-Fest Short Needs Two Actors, Shooting begins Feb. 9
Posted in Acting & Casting, Crew & Employment: Unpaid

Z-Fest short “Jar Jar Ruined My Life” needs actors.

“Jar Jar Ruined My Life” is a comedy in which Steve gets dumped by his nerdy girlfriend, Lucy, only because he is not a rabid Jar Jar Binks lover like her. While speaking to his best friend, George, Steve must realized that if you love someone very much you will accept all their flaws— even if they adore the most hated “STAR WARS” character ever.

Steve- If you’ve gotten the joke by now, it’s Steve like Steve Spielberg and George like George Lucas. Steve, 20′s,  sports a beard (goatee is fine too), shaggy-haired, and self-opinionated. Avid “STAR WARS” geek.

George- Also in his 20′s. He is the more passive, sagacious one of the two. Not prone to outbursts or erratic fits like Steve.

The dialogue is in the vein of a Kevin Smith film and I’m looking for two actors who are self-proclaimed and professed nerds.

Shooting will be the week Z-Fest starts: February 9th.

Those interested can contact me at: cdmeyer2013@gmail.com

If you’re interested and available, auditions will be held Saturday the 28th of January, at the Rockford Road Library in Crystal from 11:30pm-1:30pm.

The address is:
6401 42nd Ave N
Minneapolis, MN 55427-1425
(612) 543-5875
Here is a link to their hours, and a map of the area: http://www.hclib.org/pub/ipac/Agencies4iPac.cfm?Agency=RR

Please email noyoucantfilm@gmail.com for a time slot (you’ll get some other info too, like a contact name and number, along with a role to practice), include a head shot and resume (if you have them), a short paragraph detailing your experience, and in the subject line put your name, age, and which role you believe you can play.

Unfortunately this will not be paid, but you will get CCM (copy, credit, meal) for your time. This short will be submitted into the Z-Fest Film Festival. If we happen to win some money, it will be dispersed between all involved. Find out some more information at www.z-fest.com.

[CAMERON] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 24-26]

Cameron has always been taken care of, whether she likes it or not. She grew up in the suburbs, and afraid of the idea of having their only daughter in the big city by herself scares Cameron’s parents. They have ensured that she has a nice apartment to herself, as well as a personal driver to escort her throughout her daily life. Cameron strongly dislikes the fact that her parents are still influencing her day-to-day life by telling her how she travels and how she lives. Jake grew up in the cities to a broken family. His parents are divorced, and he has a younger brother and sister. He is confident in himself and may come across as cocky and/or inconsiderate at times. He is insecure about himself, but often projects it onto those around him.

[LUKAS] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 24-28]

Millie is not known for going above and beyond. She is flirtatious, outgoing and lives for the weekends. She is the one that encourages Cameron to go out, and is excited that she has another single friend to go out with. She clocks in at work and clocks out.

[MRS. WHEELER] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 35-50]

Mrs. Wheeler is Millie and Cameron’s boss. She is encouraging and supportive of her design team. She is known for running a tight ship so to speak, but she is well respected by her employees.

I credit Sandra with helping me get them.” ~ Mikki Daniels, TC actress, TPS alumni.

“Sandra has what I call ‘eagle-vision’…If it weren’t for Sandy I would’ve never been able to do “United 93.”  She gave me the tools to go to emotional depths I had never gone before…” ~Trish Gates, Lead Actress, in Oscar Winning “United 93″. TPS Alumnus.

“You can tell Sandra’s actors are very well trained.” ~ Laura Tucci, Casting Director, Paramount Television, LA.

“Sandra’s students perform with such honesty.  This honesty is not only important to stage, but vital for the camera. ~Jean Rohn, former casting director for ALL MY CHILDREN.  Owner of JR Casting. MPLS.

“I highly recommend Sandra’s classes…..” ~Barbara Shelton, casting director, owner of Bab’s Casting.  MPLS.

“I had been acting for over 30 years and considered myself a very good actor but I took Sandra Horner’s Advanced class in order to become “consistently excellent.”  Within months of taking Sandra’s class I won a “Best Performer” award at a State-wide competition and shortly after that was awarded the “Best Actor” for a theater’s entire season.  Acting isn’t about winning awards or collecting trophies (even Oscars), but it’s affirming to have good work acknowledged and appreciated… I now work more as a Casting Director than an actor and I love auditioning actors who have taken Sandra’s classes because I know they’re serious and committed to their craft.” ~ Matthew Feeney, casting director, Walden Entertainment. TPS alumni.

*BREYERS ICE CREAM* – Casting a mother, father, daughter, and son.
Posted in Acting & Casting, Classified Ads, General, Newsflash

My name is Andrew Hatling. I am a producer/director from Los Angeles, and am in Minnesota for a few weeks working on a commercial for Breyer’s Ice Cream. I am currently in the process of casting and am in need of a “family” for the shoot.

I was hoping to find:

1) A female (mother) role, caucasian, and ages 35-45.

2) A male (father) role, caucasian, and ages 35-45.

3) A male (son) role, caucasian, and ages 6-12.

4 A female (daughter) role, caucasian, and ages 12-18.

Ideally I would like to just see a picture, and then do a phone interview. If they seem like a good fit – we’ll then try meeting and conducting a relaxed audition. Our schedule is relatively tight, so please respond ASAP!

I look forward to hearing from you all!
